About the Opportunity

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University was recently appointed to several key academic positions to contribute to innovative teaching, research and collaboration within the Faculty, including the appointment of Professor Charles Lemckert as Disciplinary Director.

We are now seeking an Outstanding Associate Professor/Professor in Mechanical Engineering to provide academic leadership in teaching, learning and research and support the Faculty’s engagement with industry and professional bodies to equip our students with the skills and the ability to solve emerging challenges for a better world.

The Associate Professor/Professor of Mechanical Engineering will contribute to the ongoing accreditation process of all engineering programs and should represent the University with detailed knowledge of mechanical engineering relevant to our teaching and research.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Offer teaching, research and administrative activities in the field of mechanical engineering;
  • Make innovative contributions to advance the discipline in both teaching and research;
  • Contribute to and coordinate the development of curricula that ensure exceptional teaching and learning outcomes in the new Southern Cross model; and
  • Lead strategic initiatives with external stakeholders, including government and industry.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have a national reputation in the field of mechanical engineering with a growing network that can be leveraged to enhance the reputation of the University.

More specifically, you will have:

  • A doctorate in engineering and current registration as a chartered member of Engineers Australia or the ability to obtain registration;
  • Record of teaching excellence with a proven ability to lead and develop curriculum to improve student achievement;
  • Strong track record of grant success and publications in high-quality journals; and
  • Experience in human relations and academic leadership.

This position is:

  • Full-time, continuous (permanent)
  • Located in Lismore, but expected presence on the Gold Coast as our teaching programs grow on this campus. Generous relocation assistance available
  • Academic level D or E. Base salary ranges from $148,746 to $190,982 per year, plus 17% employer contribution to superannuation. Total compensation can reach $223,448.

The starting level will be determined based on the skills, experience and knowledge of the candidate with reference to the minimum standards for academic staff.
