IIT Jodhpur presents BTech in civil engineering and infrastructure

IIT-Jodhpur has launched a unique BTech program in Civil Engineering and Infrastructure, which includes courses on large-scale integrated infrastructure.

IIT-Jodhpur has introduced a one-of-a-kind BTech program in Civil Engineering and Infrastructure by including courses related to large-scale integrated infrastructure such as telecommunications and IT, renewable and non-renewable energy, railway design , airports and seaports, officials said.

They explained that unlike other civil engineering programs in India, this program will introduce students to a variety of fields such as infrastructure planning and design, good knowledge of artificial intelligence and learning. automation, intelligent materials and sensors, and physical infrastructure security. and digital threats.

According to the head of the civil engineering and infrastructure department of IIT-Jodhpur, Ranju Mohan, unlike the manufacturing, automotive and aerospace industries, the civil and infrastructure industries have been slow to embrace digital and transformative technologies. .

Applying artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems and digital twins will cut costs and time, streamline construction and reduce waste, he said.

“Our program has a course structure that integrates and integrates conventional civil engineering with these advanced transformative technologies. In this way, we create next-generation civil engineers who can meet the needs of society from a multidisciplinary perspective, which is exactly what today’s industry needs. ” he added.

The program also allows students to earn a specialization in “smart infrastructure” or “environmental engineering” in addition to the regular BTech diploma.
