NEW DELHI: The Department of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has decided to offer undergraduate programs in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering starting in the 2020-2021 academic year.
Students can opt for a regular BTech program or an Honors BTech, for the specialization, students must earn additional credits from a list of specialization courses. For the next academic session, two specialization streams will be offered by the department – Environmental engineering and smart infrastructure.
According to the statement released by the institute, the department is striving to reinvent the course structure that integrates and incorporates elements of conventional civil engineering with advanced transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cyber system physical (CPS), and digital twins (DT).
“The structure of the course will also help students gain an in-depth understanding of green and sustainable materials, practices and principles for the design of resilient infrastructure systems using safe methodologies coupled with advanced technologies such as IA, DT, CPS and the Internet of Things (IoT), ”reads the statement from IIT Jodhpur.
